The Lucky Flat Tire

6/7 - Coos Bay (58 miles)
6/8 - Haceta Head (62 miles)

Flat tires aren't always bad news. On this day, the stars were aligned so that we would meet Mike McGriff while changing Rachel's pierced tire. The chat started off innocent "you guys need any help?" ... and ended up w/ "my parents would love to have you over for dinner". After laundry and showers we stayed up into the wee hours of the night with Mike, Jonell, David, and sister Mary sampling local tuna, wines, and beer. The family enlightened us on the history of the Coos Bay lumber industry which pretty much bottomed out in the eighties, but the pictures below display that there is still much going on. The next morning Mike shuttled us across a long, windy bridge in which many bikers have been killed! I hope to rescue a biker changing a flat someday and attempt to repay this OR hospitality.
